The Christian Conduct of Corinthians

What if someone were to come to you and ask if you were truly a follower of Jesus?

What would you say?

And really, how would you know?

Continue with today’s reading to hear the Apostle Paul’s question to the Corinthians on just that:

Read 2 Corinthians 13:5-10.

Examine yourself.

This statement is harsh, but Paul is bringing it to light because it is important that we aren’t fooling ourselves, thinking one thing but living another.

The Apostle John brought to attention a similar question, and shared with us what it takes to determine whether we’re truly following Jesus when he said this:

“And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.”
-1 John 2:3-6

Basically, are you bearing fruit?

Are you growing in Christ, looking more and more like Jesus, and abiding in all He taught?

Examine yourself.

Don’t be naïve, but honestly and humbly ask this question and reflect on your faith and all that you are for this is the only way to know whether you are an authentic follower of Jesus.

And even though a question such as this may come off as unnerving and even scary, just be honest with yourself and take it to the Lord in question. For at the end of the day, this question is asked so you won’t be fooled but rather know confidently that you are belonging to the Lord.

Therefore, are you ready?

Reflection Questions:

Since you have come to know Jesus, have you grown and borne fruit of righteousness?

Do you look more like Jesus since your first day following Him?

Do you intentionally abide in His Word, and not just abide by reading but by doing?

Is the love of God in you?

Christian

Since coming to faith as a young college student, God’s lead has taken me around the world and back. Today, my passion is clearer than ever; my heart hurts for the lost, but it burns for the Church. My deepest desire is to equip the Church to be the body, working together to see people’s lives be redeemed in the name of Jesus. My name is Christian and my wife, Emily and I have been married for 6 years and have a little one named Amelia. Together, we’re fully committed to following Jesus to where ever He leads us.
