The Christian Conduct of Corinthians

Have you ever come across or experienced anyone who teaches and follows Mormonism, new age spirituality, the prosperity Gospel, permissible grace Gospel, once saved always saved, or even a works-based gospel?

These may all sound random and as having nothing to do with one another, but the truth is, these are all false teachings that have either stemmed out of the Church or are being practiced by those within the Church of today.

Some of these are quite obviously wrong, but others are more subtle and can pose a large danger to those who might otherwise not be on guard with the truth of God’s Word.

Come and see how the Corinthians were fighting a similar battle in their day and what the Apostle Paul had to share concerning them:

Read 2 Corinthians 11:1-6.

The Corinthians were being tempted to accept another “Gospel” than the one Paul originally gave them.

Lies were being introduced to these young believers, small variations here and there, and even though they were still proclaiming the name of Jesus, Paul was likening these teachings to being no different than the lies of the serpent in the Garden who tempted and lured Eve from God’s truth.

And the worst thing about it is, these same lies, and more are still being passed along and believed even today.

And to be honest, you may even believe one, two, or even more of these false teachings and not even be aware of it.

The question though is how can we not fall under these false illusions? How can we successfully follow Jesus even if those all around us decide to believe a fanciful lie?

By knowing the Word of God!

For only the truth exposes the darkness and lies for what they truly are.

Therefore, by knowing your Bible and being fully acquainted with it, you will be able to know the difference and not fall for the schemes of the enemy.

Take a few minutes to meditate on these thoughts and ask the Lord to share with you and expose any false teachings that have taken residence in your own heart and mind. Ask Him to rid you of them and to lead you into all truth.

Reflection Questions:

Have you ever been fooled into a subtle false teaching such as once saved always saved simply because it sounded nice?

Have you ever been introduced to bigger false teachings such as new age spirituality and were tempted to think it aligned with Jesus?

In what ways can you devote yourself deeper into God’s Word and stand for truth?

Christian

Since coming to faith as a young college student, God’s lead has taken me around the world and back. Today, my passion is clearer than ever; my heart hurts for the lost, but it burns for the Church. My deepest desire is to equip the Church to be the body, working together to see people’s lives be redeemed in the name of Jesus. My name is Christian and my wife, Emily and I have been married for 6 years and have a little one named Amelia. Together, we’re fully committed to following Jesus to where ever He leads us.
