A Heart Problem

Imagine an impulse came over you and you punched a random stranger in the face, what would happen? How would they respond?

Now imagine if you were to punch a police officer, what would they do? What consequences would you be facing?

Take it another step further, you completely lost your mind and punched the president directly in the face!

You would be executed on the spot!

The point? The consequences for the same action escalate depending on who you commit the crime against, right? From a random person on the street to the reigning ruler of your country, the same action can range from being a minor offense to earning you the death penalty.

Now with that in mind, imagine if you punched God Himself!

That is what sin is, you are not just harming another or yourself, but are committing a crime against God.

And that’s a big deal!

The penalty for our crime is more than just missing the mark of what we were created to be, but comes with a price:

“For the wages of sin is death…”
-Romans 6:23a

For the truth is, a Holy God cannot and will not be in the presence of sin.

And if we are removed from the Giver of Life Himself, how can we possibly live?

For if by our sin we are separated from Life, we will surely die.

And not just physically, but spiritually as we are warned that those alienated from God will not just die, but shall be cast into the eternal fire.

Can you imagine a worse penalty than that?

Eternally separated from the One you were made for, never living up to your potential, never being satisfied; this is death, and worse, this is Hell.

Think on these things, reflect on your own life, your sin, and are you concerned about the penalty that comes along with it? For yourself, and how about others?

But know this, there is still hope.

Christian

Since coming to faith as a young college student, God’s lead has taken me around the world and back. Today, my passion is clearer than ever; my heart hurts for the lost, but it burns for the Church. My deepest desire is to equip the Church to be the body, working together to see people’s lives be redeemed in the name of Jesus. My name is Christian and my wife, Emily and I have been married for 6 years and have a little one named Amelia. Together, we’re fully committed to following Jesus to where ever He leads us.
