A Heart Problem

Sin is failing to meet the perfect standard of God’s righteousness and comes with the penalty of death.

Plain and simple, right?

But how do we know what sin is? By our conscience alone?

And thus, God gave His people Israel what we know as the Law of Moses.

A standard of living, of righteousness, and a complete and thorough guide to how He expected their culture, society, and hearts to operate.

The Law was God’s standard made known to all without excuse, and by it, the people were judged.

Today, as followers of Jesus, we now know that the Law stood for one main purpose:

“Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.”
-Romans 3:19

And the result?

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
-Romans 3:23

In other words, the Law stood as the judge so that all people may know that they did not measure up, that they could not.

By our sinful nature, perfection was an impossible goal and at the end of the day, all stand condemned without any hope of achieving salvation by their good works.

That despite all our efforts, we need help.

Reflection Questions:

We need a savior.

How does it feel to stand condemned under the Law?

Do you realize your need for a Savior?

Christian

Since coming to faith as a young college student, God’s lead has taken me around the world and back. Today, my passion is clearer than ever; my heart hurts for the lost, but it burns for the Church. My deepest desire is to equip the Church to be the body, working together to see people’s lives be redeemed in the name of Jesus. My name is Christian and my wife, Emily and I have been married for 6 years and have a little one named Amelia. Together, we’re fully committed to following Jesus to where ever He leads us.
