There is another place in Scripture that elaborates a bit more on this subject:

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church,
-Ephesians 5:22-29

In a society such as what we know today, these few verses are often combatted against and ignored.

But take a few minutes to ponder your own heart and examine what it is that you as a person truly want and need as either a man or a woman.

As a man, don’t you desire to be respected?

And as a woman, don’t you desire to be cherished and adored by your husband?

I’m not claiming to be a psychologist here or know what you personally need, but I do know that throughout Scripture, God makes known from the moment of man’s creation, that male and female have been wired and purposed very specifically and so need different sorts of attention from their significant other in order to thrive.

Putting all of this aside, if you’re married or someday plan to be, how are you doing concerning these passages?

Husbands, are you loving your wife to such a degree as Christ did when He was willingly pierced and hung on that cross?

Wives, do you submit to your husband, giving him the “authority” over the household and show him the respect he needs as a man?

This is a cycle put in place by God that will bring marital success and help you and your spouse to flourish.

Give it a try today and see what happens!

Christian

Since coming to faith as a young college student, God’s lead has taken me around the world and back. Today, my passion is clearer than ever; my heart hurts for the lost, but it burns for the Church. My deepest desire is to equip the Church to be the body, working together to see people’s lives be redeemed in the name of Jesus. My name is Christian and my wife, Emily and I have been married for 6 years and have a little one named Amelia. Together, we’re fully committed to following Jesus to where ever He leads us.
