Out of the Heart

“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
-Luke 6:45

Have you ever questioned where that mean remark came from?

Why that sudden outburst came seemingly out of nowhere?

Or why do you seem anxious day in and day out?

According to Jesus, it came from within you, or to be more precise, your heart.

The condition of your heart determines all that you do. It will determine your actions, your words, your thoughts, and your faith.

And the thing is, even if you want to, you cannot manage it by sheer will alone. You cannot fix your heart by fixing your actions, and if you try, you will only be fighting a losing battle.

The only way to fix what is happening on the outside is by fixing what is taking place on the inside.

And how, you might ask?

Jesus.

He alone is the medicine for your soul.

He alone, by pressing into Him, spending time with Him, observing Him, and becoming like Him, can your heart be healed.

Only by Jesus can your heart be mended and made new, and only through the healing of your heart can your mind and all you do be changed.

Therefore, as we think about these things, take the time here and now to evaluate your own heart. Look within yourself, and be brutally honest.

Do you have hurt within your heart?

Are you weary and tired?

Are you angry, anxious, worried, or lacking in confidence?

Is there any lack?

Whatever it is, take it to Jesus, and through Him, slowly but surely, you will be made well.

Christian

Since coming to faith as a young college student, God’s lead has taken me around the world and back. Today, my passion is clearer than ever; my heart hurts for the lost, but it burns for the Church. My deepest desire is to equip the Church to be the body, working together to see people’s lives be redeemed in the name of Jesus. My name is Christian and my wife, Emily and I have been married for 6 years and have a little one named Amelia. Together, we’re fully committed to following Jesus to where ever He leads us.
