Are You Awake?

“”But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake. Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.””
-Mark 13:32-37

This is Jesus’ finishing remarks as He concluded telling His disciples what must take place at the end of time.

And after He had frightened them with His many warnings, He simply said,
Stay awake”.

Little did they know that this warning was not for them, but for us.

These words are recorded for those living at the end, which many today believe is now.

Therefore this warning Jesus gave is crucial for us to ask ourselves, “are we awake?”

What does that even mean?

In the end there will be chaos, a continually plummeting culture, and much strife.

Jesus warns that it will be easy and even convenient to “fall asleep” in the faith.

In other words, be consumed by the day we live in rather than being consumed by God and His coming Kingdom.

Therefore as we ask ourselves this question, take a few minutes to reflect upon your own life and faith.

Do you look much like the world and how it believes? Have you conformed to the confusion of sex, entertainment, and pleasures of this world?

When following Jesus, the word “follow” entails an active participation.

If you are actively following, you cannot fall asleep.

Therefore, as you go about your life, is Jesus at the forefront?

Is He leading the way, or an afterthought in your decisions?

When you wake up in the morning and go about your day, is seeking and pleasing Him a priority?

In other words, is your faith the framework for all that you do, or just something you do as a community affair on Sundays and here and there in between?

Do not be naïve to this world and its happenings, but be alert, stay awake.
And most of all, follow Jesus.

“Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.””
-Mark 13:35-37

Christian

Since coming to faith as a young college student, God’s lead has taken me around the world and back. Today, my passion is clearer than ever; my heart hurts for the lost, but it burns for the Church. My deepest desire is to equip the Church to be the body, working together to see people’s lives be redeemed in the name of Jesus. My name is Christian and my wife, Emily and I have been married for 6 years and have a little one named Amelia. Together, we’re fully committed to following Jesus to where ever He leads us.
